The Clay County Animal Shelter (CCAS) thanks you, our new and our prior supporters, for your donations to our animal shelter and adoption center. Your generosity is key to the shelter's success because grants and your donations fund our entire operating budget and our current building project. We are grateful to all of you who consider the Clay County Animal Shelter to be a worthy recipient of your charitable giving. If you are thinking of donating to CCAS, consider that we regularly and successfully achieve our goal of finding homes for 80%-90% of our cats and dogs. Eighty of our eighty-five animals found their forever homes in 2023. Consider also that we have very low administrative costs so almost the entierty of your donation supports caring for our cats and dogs.
CCAS was founded in 2000 in Henrietta, TX, as a no-kill animal shelter, and our mission has always been to provide an alternative to euthanising stray and abandoned animals in Clay County. For twenty-four years, we have been taking in, caring, training, and finding forever homes for abandoned dogs and cats, no matter how long it takes. We house eighty-five animals, forty-five cats and forty dogs. With every adoption, we are able to take in and care for another homeless animal, which explains why we are usually at or near capacity.
We are proud to serve our community by picking up and taking in animals off of Clay County streets, by taking in animals that citizens can no longer keep, by providing a forum through our facebook page (facebook.com/CCASofTX) of reuniting lost animals and their owners, and by providing programs for the common good such as the free spay-and-neuter program to limit overpopulation that treated 184 animals through a $25,000 donation by a concerned supporter. The shelter's facebook page is a busy forum for sharing shelter information with the public, and for interested citizens to share animal-related information with each other. Visit our website claycritters.petfinder.com to see profiles of our dogs and cats.
We have just broken ground on our new 30'x40' cattery to replace our current aging facility. It will be spacious, energy efficient, ADA compliant, and well laid out with large viewing windows to facilitate interaction with our cats. We have raised almost all of the funds we need to complete the facility that will be airy and light for the cats, that our community can be proud of, and that will reflect the shelter’s commitment to housing our animals in a pleasant, light-filled, clean, and healthy environment.
