CLEVELAND MONTESSORI at ALTA HOUSE

Cleveland Montessori and Alta House have come together in an educational and service-oriented partnership that significantly and positively impacts Little Italy and surrounding communities now and into the future. Cleveland Montessori, after more than 20 years of successful growth moved into its new home at the Alta House in January 2016. The school’s presence in Little Italy serves the interests of diverse families who value children’s exposure to the rich educational opportunities in the neighborhood and University Circle.  

Alta House, an anchor institution in Little Italy for over 120 years, has partnered with the school to deliver on a mission that honors its distinguished heritage of service. Founded as a neighborhood center for young people to learn and socialize while their parents worked, Alta House evolved as Little Italy’s population grew older, expanding its programming to benefit seniors. 

The completion of the the first phase of our renovation project brought the Alta House building up to code — electrical, HVAC, plumbing — and created beautiful spaces for both the school and Alta House to operate and fulfill their missions. The second phase will allow the completion of an addition to the existing building with a central community room, additional classroom to house another elementary classroom and office spaces.  Collectively, the Alta House and Cleveland Montessori are working toward raising $1.6 million to achieve this goal  - an architecturally harmonious front to replace the aging ‘70s facade — while maintaining the beloved Bocce courts.
