WHAT IS THE CLIMATE GROUP?

We are an international non-profit organization that aims to accelerate climate solutions, globally. Our mission is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to create a world of under 2°C (3.6°F) of global warming and greater prosperity for all, without delay.

We bring together powerful networks of businesses and subnational governments – partners that can make change now – to shift markets and policies towards this goal. We deliver exciting programs focusing on scaling renewable energy, electric vehicles, energy productivity and LED lighting and work with governments to set ambitious emissions reductions. And we use the power of communications to build ambition and pace across these networks.

OUR WORK

For over a decade we have been working with state and regional governments globally. We serve as Secretariat of the Under2 Coalition, which consists of over 200 states and regions on six continents that collectively represent more than 1.3 billion people and US$30 trillion GDP - equivalent to over 16% of the global population and almost 40% of the global economy. These governments have all committed to limit their emissions by 80-95% or to two tons per capita by 2050. Going forward we will work with these governments to implement deep de-carbonization pathway plans, which create a roadmap to achieving these ambitious reduction targets.

On the business side, our RE100 program - run with CDP - engages over 100 influential corporate members committed to switching to 100% renewable energy. These businesses are now creating enough renewable energy demand to power New York State. And our EV100 campaign engages the world’s largest and most influential companies to invest in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure to help drive the uptake of clean transport.
