In California, 16% of all children suffer from at least one chronic disease, such as diabetes, asthma and cancer. The number rises to 20% in underserved communities. Founded in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in 2001, CoachArt’s unique program offers a creative outlet to distract children from the pain, therapies and isolation that come with chronic illness. CoachArt’s mission is to  improve the quality of life for chronically ill children and their families by providing free lessons in the arts and athletics. CoachArt is the only nonprofit that provides free, ongoing enrichment programs specially adapted to these children's needs. Through the arts and athletics, chronically ill children and their siblings gain increased confidence, hope, self-esteem and the chance to just be a kid again.
