Cokesbury United Methodist Church

Every year we send a team with the EPC (Eastern Pennsylvania Conference) Mission Team to a city or area within the United States to assist with Disaster Recovery or Economic Recovery efforts.

We have been to Memphis, TN, Swan Quarter, NC, Pahokee, FL and Rockford, IL to help repair homes and facilities ravaged by floods, tornados and hurricanes.  Some of the areas we have served have been some of the most economically strapped in the country, leaving the residents unable to pay contractors to do the work.

We have repaired roofs, laid tile, installed drywall, hung doors, rewired homes, repiped facilities as well as have painted, planted, caulked and cleaned.

This year we are travelling to NJ to assist with remaining Hurricane Sandy recovery.  Currently, it look like our skills will be put to use in Atlantic City - a city which has recently suffered economic woes as well with the rapid fire closing of several casinos.

The work is exhausting yet rewarding.  And, in the end, we realize that only by the grace of God have we not suffered such setbacks.  It's a humbling experience.  Truly, God gets the glory because we know we can't accomplish the work we do on our own.
