Colonial Williamsburg Foundation

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Colonial Williamsburg's mission is to help "the future learn from the past" by preserving, restoring, and presenting 18th-century Williamsburg, and by engaging, informing, and inspiring people as they learn about this historic capital, the events that occurred here, and the diverse people who helped shape America.

Programs

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation provides visitors with high quality educational programs and experiences related to 18th-century America. The use, development, and design of its education program is guided by the theme "From Subjects to Citizens: Our Struggle to Be Both Free and Equal," which seeks to show that in the 21st century, as was true in the 18th, effective citizen participation is fundamental to America's wellbeing. Colonial Williamsburg's Electronic Field Trips series delivers interesting and engaging distance learning experiences via satellite and the Internet. Its annual Teacher Institute shares Colonial Williamsburg's history education techniques and resources with elementary and secondary school teachers.
