Come Unity

In 2007 a few friends got together to raise a little money for
people in Africa they had never met in Africa. They raised money doing what they did best- dancing. They put on two shows, expressed to their audience why they were doing something so crazy, and raised over $6,000 in those two evenings. COME UNITY, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating poverty, was born.

Our Director, Kristin Naylor, took that $6,000 to Africa and paid for hospital visits, teacher salaries, food, mattresses, clothes and more.  She left Africa that summer with a broken yet hopeful heart and a commitment to invest in long term partnerships.  When our teams journey to Africa, our perspectives are righted and our hearts swell with compassion and gratitude all at once. In the years since that first trip, we’ve partnered with many amazing organizations, traveled throughout Africa, acquired a Board of Directors, established 501(c)3 status and determined our essential goals as a nonprofit organization. We currently aid our partners in three ways:

1. Meeting basic needs by providing food, water, and sanitation.

2. Providing education for children through sponsorship.

3. Creating sustainable local economies with income generating activities.

Because we believe in strong, sustainable communities, we
partner with impoverished areas for a finite period of time. We select communities in need that have strong, accountable, transparent and communicative leadership. We do not wish to create communities that are dependent on our aid. We’d rather teach a man to fish than give him fish. We’re giving a hand up, not a hand out. If there is one thing we have learned at COME UNITY, it is that we are changed in the giving. Those of us born into abundance have much to offer: our talents and gifts, our time, our resources.
