The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign (November 25-December 10) is a strategy for individuals and groups around the world to call for the elimination of all forms of gender-based violence. This year’s campaign focuses on the issue of ending femicide. According to the World Health Organization, “Femicide is generally understood to involve intentional murder of women because they are women, but broader definitions include any killings of women or girls.”
Significantly, Nevada is ranked in the top ten in the nation for the number of women murdered by men for eight consecutive years (Violence Policy Center, 2019 homicide data). The statistics are staggering and only represent reported femicide cases, unfortunately, there are so many cases that go unreported. |
