Communities First Inc

We need to raise $10,000 to help the homeless population in Flint!  The funds will be used to create and print the "Where Can I Get Help?" Resource Guide (Little Yellow Book), increase awareness about resources and provide permanent housing at Swayze Court Apartments for some of our most vulnerable residents.

 

Communities First, Inc. has four focus areas: affordable housing, economic development, arts and culture outreach and environmental education.

• Affordable housing - We recently saved an important historic school building and converted it into housing for low income seniors (Oak Street Senior Apartments).  We have another project in construction that is the rehabilitation of a historic apartment building in downtown Flint called Swayze Court Apartments.  When complete, some of the most vulnerable people in our community will have a place to call home.
• Economic Development - Our housing developments each create about 100 jobs for our local community. 
• Arts and Culture Outreach - This program, called Culture Shock has received national attention and impacted more than 14.000 people.  We are connecting people with arts and culture through pop-up performances, access to venues, special partnerships and employing local artists.
• Environmental Programs - Green Life educates residents and businesses about their impact on the environment.  As a green organization, we create sustainable developments and office spaces and advocate for environmentally friendly practices.
