Communities In Schools® of South Carolina ensures every student, regardless of race, zip code, or socioeconomic background has what they need to realize their potential in school and beyond. Working directly inside more than 34 Title I schools across the state of South Carolina, we connect students to caring adults and community resources that help them see, confront, and overcome the barriers that stand between them and a brighter future. The organization will works with 41 site coordinators to provide programing to support more than 18,000 students with critical social and emotional support programming.
Across South Carolina, approximately 61% of students attending public-school live-in poverty thereby limiting their access to obtain a quality education. These students are disproportionately children of color who already fall through the cracks in the public education system. Without community support, they are more at risk of missing school, dropping out and failing to earn a high school diploma.
By helping our most vulnerable students stay in school and succeed in life, we are building stronger, healthier and more economically stable communities where every person is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential. Our integrated student supports program creates access to critical resources, like food, housing, healthcare, counseling, and remote technologies. These wrap-around services do more than just keep kids in school – they set them up for success.
Together, we build a powerful change movement made up of peers, students, and alumni committed to building an equitable path to education for future generations.
