MISSION

Established in 2009, Veterans Community Response (VCR) is a non-profit organization composed of veterans from all military branches, local firefighters, and certified therapists that work diligently to support combat veterans in their readjustment process. Our programs help combat veterans develop the skills to navigate their postwar challenges and lead productive and satisfying lives after serving our great country. It is our firm belief that with compassion, understanding, and action we can create a safe and structured environment to promote the healing process for those we serve.

VCR has adopted the warrior’s creed “We Bring Everyone Home" and believe it to be our collective responsibility.  We are proud to rely solely on the resources and volunteerism of our community to carry out our mission. Our unique collaborative healing approach provides veterans with proven and effective methods to adjust to post-combat life and finally come “home.”

OUR GOALS: SEE UPPER TAB

Our Focus on Events and Activities:

  1. One to four day retreats focussed on reaching the most vulnerable veterans in need:

VCR hosts four-day retreats to guide combat veterans toward a path of healing. Our retreats foster fellowship through recreation and shared challenges with the goal of turning strangers into brothers and sisters.

Throughout our retreats, veterans work with trauma clinicians and peer mentors to share effective reintegration tools, rebuild trust, confidence, and companionship. Each evening, participants gather around a fire circle to explore common postwar readjustment challenges and to share their hardships and succe

  2. Community Service Events focussed on helping veterans in need and community in need - often time disabled veterans
We often team with local nonprofits to serve others while healing our own hearts. Extreme Team KXLY is one of our partners in serving our community.
  3. Community Responder:
VCR’s disaster response program engages veterans in meaningful service both locally and nationally to help veterans rediscover a sense of purpose. After building knowledge and fellowship through certified training, our veterans are once again mission ready to respond to a diverse set of community needs. For example, when fires ravaged the Pacific Northwest in August of 2015 and 2023, VCR took immediate action to aid affected populations and communities.

Our volunteers assembled supplies and team up with local and national agencies.Today, VCR team members continue to serve in local wildfire prevention as well as worldwide humanitarian efforts in conjunction with All Hands and Hearts. Disaster response is an integral part of our mission to help veterans rediscover their tribe while healing the internal scares left by combat zones.
  4. Spiritual Healing of the Warrior:
Through the leadership of our Spiritual Team Lead, Roger Vielle, a member of the Blackfeet Nation, veterans building authentic sweat lodges and participate in a traditional sweat at our retreats as well as throughout the year in efforts of calling the warrior "home."
