The Community for Positive Aging (CFPA)-Hollywood Senior Center was established in 1973 to promote the health, independence, and well-being of adults 55 & older and low-income adults living in affordable housing. We support adults in the Portland metro area with case management, information and assistance, health & wellness activities, food and social services- and a sense of community. The next chapter of the Hollywood Senior Center, CFPA has expanded our geography and services, all with an idea to expand the ability for all adults in our community to age well. Our "Center" is alive and well, resilient post-pandemic and providing opportunities for community members to connect in-person and virtually - and our ability to meet community needs relies on community support!

CFPA is a committed and networked organization that encourages intergenerational relationships, recognizes the wisdom and experience of its elders, and demonstrates awareness and respect for the aging process. We value, appreciate and encourage the important contributions of older adults in our community and empower people of all ages to achieve happy, healthy aging.

Supporting older adults’, people with disabilities, and adults at risk of homelessness and economic insecurity has been even more critical during COVID-19. Our community members are being displaced by rising housing costs at a disproportionate rate. There is a lack of affordable and reliable transportation, which is a critical component to receiving quality health care, preventing abuse and social isolation, having access to nutritious foods, and connecting to other community-based services. Older adults from communities of color are less likely to access services or have awareness of resources available, and people experiencing chronic conditions or disability want more health education and support specific to their needs and that are culturally responsive.

CFPA-HSC is adapting to these emerging needs of the communities we serve. We are finding new ways to fulfill our mission by providing critical support services, connecting seniors and low-income older adults  to technology and virtual community, and increasing our case management and direct services to provide more wraparound support. We have launched our Asian Food Pantry over the last couple of year, serving Asian seniors with culturally specific, healthy groceries to help them thrive. We play a vital role in referral and assistance with critical resources and needs, vaccinations, health care, housing, technology support, and transportation. We are supporting our clients remotely in their homes around increased health and behavioral health concerns, depression, social isolation, and food insecurity; delivering food and PPE, signing seniors and low-income older adults in subsidized housing up to get vaccines and coordinating transportation, keeping them connected to avoid social isolation and depression and providing resources and consistent outreach.

More than anything, we provide a sense of community for people as they work to connect with services, resource, and other people!

Your tax-deductible contribution helps us meet increasing demand for services and enables us to expand essential services to those most in need.

Gifts at every level are greatly appreciated - and they make a difference.
