The Community Library celebrates 61 years of bringing information, ideas, and individuals together to enhance the cultural life of central Idaho!

In 1955, the library began with 17 women each giving a dollar and opening the Gold Mine Thrift Store to raise money for books.

In 2016 the library continues to serve the community without dedicated tax dollars, funded soley through the generosity of individual donations and by Gold Mine revenue.

-Over 135,000 items in our vast collection, including:

  • Books, Music, Flim, 
  • Tablets, eReaders, laptop computers
  • musical instruments
  • photographs and historical artifacts
  • world reknown Ernest Hemingway collection

-Fast, fiber-optic internet connection, free for public use

Just since January 1, 2016:

  • We have had more than 31,553 visitors at The Community Library.
  • Patrons have checked out more than 31,191 items – including books, audiobooks, DVDs, (and even guitars!).
  • More than 1,085 children have participated in literacy programs, including school outreach programs, science time activities, and weekly story time for preschoolers.
  • Thirty-six adults have participated in a weekly adult English as a Second Language program (representing 9 different countries).
  • The public computers have been accessed over 6,000 times.
  • More than 1,400 adults have attended free public programs in the Lecture Hall on topics ranging from the history of the Nez Perce to the ecology of Mozambique.

The Community Library is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Our Federal Tax Identification number is 82-0290944. Monetary gifts to the Library are tax deductible.
