Community Projects Committee Inc

Community Projects for Seniors (Community Projects Committee, Inc.) has been providing programs for low-income senior citizens since 1986.  Community Projects for Seniors (CPS) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and serves 200 low-income subsidized apartment buildings in 60 cities, in 8 counties of S.E. Wisconsin.  More than 400 volunteers prepare, package, and deliver 4,000+ free hot meals every year on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.  Throughout the year, CPS provides social events which include lunch and music, or lunch and free bingo (prizes are toilet paper, kleenex, toiletries & food items).  We focus on senior citizens who are alone on holidays, and we also serve handicapped individuals over the age of 50.  When our budget allows, we also deliver two full bags of groceries (along with useful household products such as dish soap or a shower curtain liner) one time per year.  We only plan & implement programs which do not create or maintain dependence on CPS.  Our outings and grocery gift bags (we call them care packages) are designed to be a special gift to take pressure off of a small fixed income.  Our mission is to lessen feelings of loneliness and stress -- to show seniors their community cares about them.  CPS volunteers encourage positive social interaction and try to make events fun;  the lunch and gifts are just the icing on the cake.  The crucial element of our programs is the friendship offered by our smiling, caring volunteers.
