Community Resource Initiative

Community Resource Initiative is a collectively run investigation office and resource center based in San Francisco. Our work builds narratives to challenge the death penalty, improve the standard of care, and advocate for the value of human life. We also collaborate with families and communities impacted by the judicial system to facilitate safety, growth, and resilience. 

Through our direct services, CRI staff works with legal teams nationwide to paint a picture of a complete human life. 

Our Initiatives aim to combat the risk factors which we've come to understand place individuals most at risk of incarceration. 

One of our programs, Reading Across the Lines, is a literacy program which connects children with their incarcerated family member through recordable books. The project has proven to be most effective at facilitating literacy, while soothing a confused, anxiety-ridden child whose parent they can no longer touch.
