Community Youth Advance

Community Youth Advance (CYA) harnesses the power of community and transforms out-of-school time to Teach, Reach and Keep youth on the path to success.

Early Beginnings: 

CYA began in Prince George’s County as Mentoring to Manhood (M2M) in 2005, a mentorship nonprofit focused on stemming violence and building positive character in young men. As M2M grew to more than 100 young men served, our founders merged with Community Tutoring Inc, a grassroots tutoring program operating in the same Prince George’s County communities. 

Today:

With the merger, Community Youth Advance was incorporated in 2017, becoming the county's largest  youth development nonprofits, serving more than 600 youth in six community and school-based locations.  Our programs provide a comprehensive array of services including mentoring, personal tutoring, experiential learning, character development and entrepreneurial education under our three mission goals: Teach, Reach and Keep. 

 During the past year:

• 144 Saturday School participants (across all grade levels) increased math proficiency by an average 33.3%
• 45.8% of 170 Extended Day Learning participants improved one grade level in math
• 91% of 232 Summer Academy participants mastered STEM standards
• The 2017 mentoring parent survey results showed that 82% said their son’s self-confidence was better or much better as the result of their participation in CYA, and 65% said their son’s academic performance was improved or much improved.
