Background | Crisis in the Congo

The people of the Minembwe region in the DRC are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty, violence, and tribal

animosity. Militias exploit tribal grievances by offering identity and misguided purpose to the young people of the

region. The people of Minembwe need the hope of a better future.

Mission | Reconciliation in Minembwe

Congo Peace’s mission is to promote, support, and commit to a permanent reconciliation in the South Kivu of East

Congo. Our focus is to break this chronic cycle of violence and poverty by assisting all tribes equally. We provide

initial emergency support, and teach vocational and entrepreneurial skills to foster economic opportunity and stability.

Learn together, live together in Christ’s reconciling love. Our goal is to create a confident new generation of capable

leaders with the skills and desire to unify the tribes with a common purpose – prosperity and peace.

Vision | Congo Peace

Our vision for Minembwe and beyond is filled with hope! We support the creation of a God-filled place where people

will live, work, and play together as they learn to forgive and reconcile after decades of tribal conflict. We support

establishing a stable future where people are healthy and safe, and find hope for a sustainable livelihood through

training, education, and humanitarian aid.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

(Matthew 5:9).

People | Who do we serve?

Today we serve the 5 tribes and 22 villages in and around the Minembwe region. Our vision is to one day

expand to encompass the larger South Kivu region and beyond.

Location | Community Hall in Minembwe

Construction of the Community Hall broke ground in May 2021 and was completed a year later in May 2022.

The building is actively being used as a gathering and worshipping place for the community and serves as a

symbol of hope and pride for those living in the area. In addition to meetings, vocational training, and

reconciliation work, the Community Hall is currently serving as temporary emergency orphan housing.

Location | Vocational School & Training Center in Bukavu

Construction on a Vocational School & Training Center has begun in the larger city of Bukavu (2-3 days north

by road). This location was chosen because Minembwe is currently too dangerous and the area is quite remote

making it a cost-prohibitive place to build. Additionally, by making a remote boarding school outside of young

people’s comfort zone, we hope to instill a new group identity that binds them together beyond their tribal

identities. Going to the “big city” of Bukavu will be special and allow them to see the power of multi-tribal cooperation

that builds economic success and take that back home to Minembwe.

Jan 2025 : The New Hope Academy is on schedule to open with training its first class of vocational students!
