Connect Community Charter School

Public School

$5,955 raised by 53 donors

Redwood City has gone through profound change in the last decade.  Families are looking for a school that attends to children’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, and fully represents the diverse Redwood City community. That's where Connect comes in.

Help us connect our students to the outdoor world.

At Connect, children learn by making and doing. They build skills in collaboration, leadership, and decision-making, and learn concrete ways to connect to and improve their communities.

Experiencing the wider world, and especially the natural world, helps give students to a broader sense of belonging and connection. Many our our students haven't had the opportunity to travel beyond Redwood City, let alone experience the profound inspiration of wilderness and natural beauty.

We want to send our middle school students out into the wild! You can help!

We want to send our:

  • Sixth graders to the Marin Headlands
  • Seventh graders to Yosemite
  • Eighth graders to the Santa Cruz mountains for a capstone, bonding experience

Each trip costs about $8000, and we'd like to fund them all.

We have a matching grant from our board for up to $5000. Please help us get to our $24,000 goal.

Consider a donation of $250, which funds a trip for a student who has rarely -- or never -- traveled to true wilderness.

Any amount is welcome and deeply appreciated!

  • Hands-on learning.  Students do projects and experiments; they are asking big questions and making discoveries like the scientists, writers, mathematicians, or other professionals they may choose to become.  We believe (and research shows us) that it’s the way children learn best.
  • Self-management skills and empathy.  Children learn skills in collaboration, leadership, and good decision-making.  When children have empathy and self-management skills, they make good choices about their life, behavior, and relationships.
  • Connection.  Teachers know children individually,  making personalized education plans for each child. Children have real life connections through projects that serve their communities.

Be a part of our adventure in providing incredible and unique inquiry-based education in a diverse community public school. Your donation will help us offer enriching curriculum to all students and offer extra supports for those who need it most.

If you would like to become involved with Connect through a significant donation, or if you’d like to learn more about our work, please contact us at info@connectrwc.org.
