Cottages of Hope

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the expressions of happiness and the tears of joy on the faces of families that have been successful in providing a better, more stable future for their children.

Cottages of Hope believes in the ability of the individual.  We exist to help those that have the desire and are motivated to change their circumstances.  The single mother that is overwhelmed with providing for the basic material needs of her children while simultaneously trying to meet their emotional needs.  The hard working families that struggle day after day to make ends meet.  The down individual that has had one bad brake after the other, and their dark tunnel just seems to go on with no expectation of light at the end.  The honest individual or family that has slipped into financial upheaval through no fault of their own, whether through the loss of a job, divorce, medical or other financial emergency.  When those individuals and families find themselves in survival mode all the time, we know there is "HOPE"....COTTAGES OF HOPE. 

Cottages of Hope, in partnership with the United Way of Northern Utah, is bringing a new approach to community collaboration to Utah.  This new project is called The SparkPoint Center.  The SparkPoint Center at Cottages of Hope truly helps "Teach a man to fish".  The focus is to recruit and gather various non-profit entities under one roof to offer a variety of resources to help low-to-moderate income individuals and families access community resources to address basic needs if required, and then to systematically move toward achieving greater levels of economic self-sufficiency.  

Our mission is to provide resources and services that empower families to achieve greater levels of financial stability.

We live to help those individuals or families that want to change their financial situation for the better.  If you are looking to acquire stable employment, but just don't know how to do it, Cottages of Hope can help you.  Families that are struggling to keep themselves and their children off of the street and in a stable housing situation can come to Cottages of Hope to get connected to financial resources that will allow that to happen.  If you have always dreamed of having a good paying career to better provide for your children's futures, you can receive that support through the one stop community resource connection system at Cottages of Hope.  

Many clients come to us with various financial matters like debt and credit issues or basic money management struggles.  Whatever a family's need, we have designed programs and processes that help them compartmentalize an approach to   focus clients on their long term objectives.  We've helped the homeless become housed, the penniless to save, and the hungry to feed themselves!

In 2016-2018:

 - 3,152 families received help preparing and filing federal and state tax returns saving an estimated $490,000 in tax preparation fees, bringing back more than $4.5 million in refunds to the community.  Many of these families were able to receive coaching from Cottages of Hope on efficient ways to "Stretch" those refund dollars to better provide for their family's future.

-  245 families received financial coaching assistance to help establish a household budget, pay down debt, establish emergency savings and build credit score, all to help prepare them for a more successful and stable financial future.

-  Clients paid down more than $530,000 in debt and saved over $356,000 in emergency savings through wages and tax refunds.  

-  1142 clients received individual help and coaching with workforce development and resume building activities to help find employment.

-  1046 student hours of financial literacy taught in the community, helping clients to become properly banked, pay down debt and save for the future. 

-  14 families were successful with purchasing their first home.

-  88 individuals were assisted with enrolling in college and starting their path towards better employment.

-  122 volunteers from local businesses and the community at large donated more than 16,000 hours of service in support of the programs offered at Cottages of Hope.
