Council for Jews With Special Needs Inc

The Council For Jews With Special Needs has been helping children and adults who have disabilities since 1985. We provide help for children and teens in all Jewish schools and camps; sign language interpreters; support groups for family members; specialized Jewish education and social clubs for adults; community education and disability workshops throughout metropolitan Phoenix. Simchat Shabbat is a monthly Shabbat morning service designed for children and adults with disabilities and their parents in a welcoming, supportive environment.  The Council presently has two Jewish group homes for adults with disabilities.  The Council provides assistance to the disability community in general through information and referral, trainings and collaborative projects.

Programs and Services:

 

• Disability resources, information and referral within Jewish agencies in North America for children and adults with disabling conditions
• Consultation and supports to enable children and adults with disabilities to attend Jewish preschools, day schools, Sunday schools and camps
• Assistance to design a bar/bat mitzvah for a child or adult with disabilities
• Family support and educational presentations for families and professionals
• Social groups for teens and adults with moderate to severe disabilities
• Simchat Shabbat services monthly for those who cannot participate in traditional Shabbat morning services
• Sign language interpreters for Deaf Jews who need it in Jewish settings (synagogues, schools, camps, community programs and life-cycle events)
• Family activities to promote networking among Jewish families that include a child or adult who has a disabling condition
• Residential program to advise families about supervised living outside the family home for individuals with disabling conditions
• Two supervised group homes for adults with a variety of disabilities
