Captain Shreve Academic Foundation

Academic excellence is our number one priority at Captain Shreve High School, and we understand that access to innovative technology is vital to students' academic success in today's world--particularly in light of the abrupt educational technological crisis we've experienced throughout our nation as our public schools have struggled to meet the educational needs of children during the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, the limited funding that public schools receive from our local government is insufficient to provide all of the learning tools and technology that our students need to continue their education, both in the classroom and online during this pandemic, and to be competitive when they graduate. Therefore, we have assembled a group of parents, dedicated alumni, and community members who invest their time and money each year in our children's academic success.

We understand the connection between high-achieving schools and strong communities, between our neighborhood schools and our local workforce, poverty level, child wefare needs, and crime rate. So together we work to identify and fund various academic tools -- from computers, tablets, televisions, and interactive white boards, to virtual reality headsets, educational software, online teleconferencing tools, and testing scholarships. Our foundation provides for all of our students, regardless of their grade or academic levels. We recognize that students have different learning styles, so we strive to provide our teachers with the instructional tools they need to inspire each individual student, whether through hands-on labs, experiments, or field trips, or through interactive, computer-based demonstration or guided inquiry.

From the beginning of our involvement with the Give for Good community campaign, the Captain Shreve Alumni Association has focused on providing Shreve students with functional mobile technology in the classrooms to aide in instruction as well as learning.  During the Covid-19 pandemic and the months that followed, our students were at an advantage because Captain Shreve had maintained its cache of Chromebooks to supplement those that were provided by the district. As we are reaching the end-of-life date on earlier Chromebook purchases, coupled with the daily wear and tear that these devices go through at the hands of 1800 students, it is important that we continue to replace and refresh these devices in order to keep our students at the forefront of our digital world.
