Crested Butte State of Mind

Crested Butte State of Mind (CBSOM) is a mental wellness connector committed to reducing the high rate of suicide in Gunnison County. Our mission is to connect our community to resources, education, and free counseling scholarships to improve mental wellness, eliminate stigma and lower the rate of suicide in the Gunnison Valley. CB State of Mind is committed to ensuring those who are uninsured or under-insured have access to mental health care and that means eliminating the barriers of cost, navigating the system, and connecting to the right service.

We have two main activities:

Therapy Scholarships: Providing access to mental health care for individuals who are uninsured/under-insured to our network of 30 local licensed therapists or telehealth partners with up to 10 counseling sessions per person for free. Over 3,000 one-hour counseling sessions have been provided since launching April 2020.

Stigma Reduction: Stigma Reduction: We are spearheading local stigma reduction activities collaboratively across organizations that work to improve knowledge, attitudes, and help-seeking behavior. Some examples include the Green Light Campaign, a painted Mental Health Matters Mountain Express Bus, film events, community conversations, monthly community connection events, and sharing local mental health impact stories to show that no one is alone.
