Crime Victims Center of Chester County Inc

A nonprofit organization

The Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Inc. (CVC) is a private, community-based, nonprofit 501(c)(3) comprehensive victim services agency whose mission includes supporting adult and child victims of all types of crime as they work toward recovery; educating professionals and the community regarding the special problems and issues of victims and imparting practical strategies for personal safety; promoting collaboration among law enforcement, the medical and the criminal justice systems, and other agencies to ensure compassionate and skilled response to victims; and recruiting/training volunteers who are responsive and effective advocates.  This mission is carried out through two main programs: Direct Services and Prevention/Education.

CVC is Chester County’s only designated comprehensive victim advocacy agency. It is independent of the criminal justice system and utilizes the services of specially trained staff and volunteers.  Assistance is rendered to all Chester County residents and/or anyone who becomes a victim of crime while in Chester County.  All services provided by CVC are free and offered on a continuing basis. The frequency and duration of services depends entirely on the severity of the crime and the victim’s needs.  Although victims are encouraged to report crime, reporting is not a condition for receiving services.  Today, serving a geographic area of 762 square miles and a population of approximately 482,112, CVC interacts with 48 municipal police departments, the Embreeville and Avondale State Police Barracks, the Chester County Detectives (part of the District Attorney's Office), 17 District Justices, the Court of Common Pleas, five hospitals, several local colleges/universities, 12 school districts and the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

In Their Own Words: Service Recipients from CVC

“Our family would not have survived these devastating traumas without the ongoing support of Brooke, (a CVC Advocate), over many years. She was available to us day and night, she was a real advocate for each of the girls, and she empowered them to make their own decisions. Brooke clarified the legal system, helped intervene when we had difficulty being heard, and was always tenacious and assertive when it came to assuring us of our rights and the rights of victims...She gave us a voice when we were struck dumb by the most unfair decisions. She heard us when we were bewildered, and gently helped us to formulate questions out of despair, She worked tirelessly … we always marveled  at the fact that we were so glad to be going home at the end of a day in trial, as Brooke would return to CVC to work even longer.”

Parents of two daughters, who were sexually abused

“We can’t thank you enough for all of your support.  Sara has come a long way & we’re sure it has a lot to do with your dedication to counseling.  We are very grateful for all you have done for her.  We really appreciated you being a “phone” call away and supporting her through this very emotional time.  You are truly an asset to our community.  Thank you again for all of your support.”

Parent of Child Sexual Assault Victim

“If it were not for CVC and CVC’s Families of Homicide Support Group, I know I would not be at the place on this road that I am. The Support Group is a safe place to talk, listen, or cry; where everyone understands how you feel, when the rest of the world does not. The Group Participants helped me to learn about hope, faith, perseverance and the strength I truly had deep down inside.”

Family Member of Homicide Victim

“Just wanted to say thanks for the support, you and your organization have been… Guess what? My daughter told me she is now thinking of a new career– instead of Detective, maybe a Crime Victim Advocate. You made such an impression on her!”

Mother of on-line sexual harassment victim

“Thank you for reinforcing the lessons we are teaching our students! We count on your programs every year to help our students learn how to stay safe and ask for help!”
