If you were to walk into Generations Central, you would probably be surprised to find the laughter, excitement, and meaningful relationships that exist in the walls of our adult day center. You might find our senior adult participants playing balloon volleyball, dressing up in fun costumes for our kid neighbors, working a puzzle, arranging fresh flowers, or sitting around sharing pastimes with laughter. Granted, you may also find a few folks taking naps because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t need a nap in the middle of the afternoon? You’d probably also be surprised to find out that most of the older friends that make up our close-knit group are facing the difficult diagnoses of age-related conditions and diseases like dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, or physical decline. Generations Central is a place where senior adults can thrive and find a renewed sense of purpose no matter what challenges they are facing.
Who We Serve
The participants who attend our adult day program are generally 60 years and older and are facing a condition or diagnosis that makes it unsafe or difficult for them to be left at home. This can range from dementia to a physical disability that requires more assistance to perform activities of daily living. We consider it an honor to be a part of our participants' care team. Utilizing our services allows our participants to stay living in their homes with their family for longer. It also allows their family caregivers to take a break, go to work, and connect with other caregivers.
Adult Day Center
Our Adult Day Program has served 43 senior adults in our first three years of operation. Seniors are supported through a day of brain-healthy activities, fun interactions with their peers and children from the co-located child care center, and countless opportunities to smile, connect, and stay engaged.
Caregiver Support Group
Providing care to an aging adult is no small task. Caregiver burnout and stress are common factors that lead family caregivers to place their senior in a long-term care facility. By offering a bi-monthly support group, we are equipping caregivers with the tools they need to help their senior age in place.
Stronger Memory
Keeping the brain healthy begins long before a diagnosis. This community group is for all aging adults looking to keep their brain healthy as they age. Members meet weekly to share their progress on their brain exercises at home. Learn more here: Stronger Memory-Goodwin Living
Intergenerational Program
Our seniors have regular opportunities to engage with our younger "neighbors" who attend the Culpeper Baptist Child Development Center just one floor above us. These intentionally planned activities help our senior adults to rediscover a sense of purpose and give back to the next generation.
When you give to Generations Central this year, your donation will go directly to supporting a senior adult and caregiver in need. This years donations will be placed in our scholarship fund to ensure that every senior adult who is eligible and interested in our program has access to a great day here at Generations.
