Culpeper Community Baseball, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that operates a Valley Baseball League franchise known as the Culpeper Cavaliers. Culpeper Community Baseball’s commitment to the community of Culpeper and the surrounding areas is to foster and promote youth baseball and softball, civic responsibility, charitable outreach, good sportsmanship, and responsible leadership. In addition to providing the community with an elite Culpeper Cavaliers collegiate summer baseball team that gives fans a fun filled, family-oriented, memorable experience, the team and the organization focuses on youth ball players.
This past summer (2023), our players, who came from colleges across the country, conducted skills clinics for area little league baseball and softball players. These clinics were conducted in June and July. These programs presented a low-cost opportunity for youth to participate in an active and beneficial recreational activity that fosters niche interests outside of the school day. Beyond the partnership with the local area little leagues, Culpeper Community Baseball, Inc. and the Culpeper Cavaliers also conducted a skills clinic for youth in the Culpeper Human Services Kids Central Summer Day Camp. This program helped underserved and less privileged youth by providing them with an outlet to mentor-based fitness and recreation. Our coaching staff and players alike taught the kids the fundamentals of baseball in an accepting environment. This program was free to all participating kids as Culpeper Community Baseball, Inc. provided the necessary equipment and resources. In addition, Cavaliers coaches and players conducted a week-long baseball skills camp at the PATH Recreation Center. This was their camp, but we provided the coaches and players at no charge. In addition to working with youth ball players, we also look for ways to help the community at large by participating in service-based opportunities such as food drives. In fact, in both June and July, some of our players volunteered their Saturday mornings to help at Empowering Culpeper. All of these programs will be done again this coming summer (2024). Below is some feedback from 2023.
From a little league parent: "The players that worked with my son were top notch. They were encouraging, worked with the young players at their level, and were true professionals. Their ability to connect with the younger players was amazing." Went on to add, "We love getting to go to Cavaliers games as a family. Seeing the kids run after foul balls for a lollipop and watching them play catch with their friends, all while getting to watch some amazing baseball, has been some of the highlights of our summer. This team has truly had an impact on the Culpeper community and the youth baseball players in our area."
From Kid Central: "We offer our full support and gratitude to the Culpeper Cavaliers. This summer, athletes and coaches from Culpeper County High School and the Culpeper Cavaliers held a weeklong sports camp to benefit the children in our summer camp. Two Culpeper Cavaliers players (Kien Vu and Reese Beheler, both collegiate baseball players from Arizona State University) joined Coach Troy Ralston to teach basic baseball skills, leadership, and inspiration to over a hundred children. Kid Central truly benefited from this community partnership and it looks forward to future collaborations with the Culpeper Cavaliers. Baseball is a foundational sport rooted in family, tradition, and hard work. The Culpeper Cavaliers inspired our children to have big league dreams."
From Empowering Culpeper: "We have been very fortunate this year to partner with the Culpeper Cavaliers baseball team in service to the community. Members of the team participated in our June and July distributions, providing food and other necessities to over 280 households representing nearly 1000 seniors, adults, and children. They were invaluable in pushing carts for customers, unloading groceries into cars, and helping to erect and take down tents and other equipment. These young men also brought an even more important, intangible element they uniquely can provide. As members of the inaugural Culpeper Cavaliers baseball team, these young athletes are celebrities in the community. That they came to work alongside our volunteers in serving our customers added a spark of excitement for everyone. They also brought a sense of worth, particularly to our customers. As they talked and joked, pushed customers’ carts for them, and unloaded groceries into their cars, they reinforced the message that our customers have value; that our customers are worthy of their respectful attention. Anytime this happens, it is precious."
