Desert Sage School

Guided by the principles of Public Waldorf education, we celebrate diversity, embrace equity, and cultivate inclusion to create space for an educational experience that bridges opportunity gaps, develops students' academic and life skills, and inspires lifelong learning.

We are living in a unique historical moment. We like to think of it as a moment in which the world took an in-breath and held it, and the pressure is building. Normal experiences of schooling for all teenagers have been vastly altered. Old gaps in our system have widened and new gaps have been revealed. For instance, the interruption of normal schooling has been predicted to have a profound, potentially long-term impact on the achievement gap. We believe that our educational model has the potential to close not only the academic opportunity gap, but many others that have been created during the pandemic--social gaps, developmental gaps, and gaps in human connection. Our mission feels more important and urgent to us than ever.

We are privileged to operate a High School inspired by Public Waldorf education. We believe we offer a valuable asset to add to the options available to students, their families, and the Tucson community. We believe that Public Waldorf Education, at the high school level, is an important piece of the puzzle; a piece that, until now, has been missing in Tucson.

The unique characteristics of Desert Sage School are:
-the Public Waldorf educational philosophy with special emphasis on culturally relevant pedagogy and literacy;
-the use of data and a strong academic support system to ensure every student is learning;
-and a robust Visual and Performing Arts program.
