To experience, enrich and express our community through the creation of theatre on Vashon Island.

Description

Drama Dock is Vashon Island's beloved community theatre organization, a source of entertainment, education and community involvement originally founded and incorporated in 1976. Since those early days, Drama Dock has produced an average of three shows every year - musicals, dramas, comedies - by and for Vashon Island audiences. Over the past 44 years, hundreds of Islanders, young and old, have participated in more than 100 Drama Dock productions, either on stage, in the orchestra or behind the scenes, building wonderful sets and costumes, designing lighting and guiding the artistic integrity of everything we do. A few of our memorable hits: "Cabaret," "Quilters," "Man of La Mancha," "June Sun," "The King and I," "Chicago," "Becky's New Car," "Noises Off!" "All in the Timing," "Tommy," "She Kills Monsters" and dozens more.

As a nonprofit 501(c)3 community theatre organization, Drama Dock is overseen by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, supported by a dedicated group of individuals, organizations and businesses who believe in our purpose and mission and who wish to serve as advisors, contributors, sponsors, patrons and friends. We have no paid staff, and the theatre professionals who step forward to direct our shows, conduct our orchestras, and provide technical assistance are paid a modest honorarium for their amazing contributions.

Much has changed on Vashon since the early days of Drama Dock, but the Island's fervor for artistic expression and genuine community-based theatre only grows stronger. We have so many more stories to tell! We are committed to producing excellent theatre that is engaging, inclusive, affordable and culturally enriching for all ages. And we whole-heartedly support theatre projects that are like-minded with respect to mission and values. Drama Dock's 2020 Season was set with four shows featuring four amazing women playwrights, with three of them telling stories about Vashon. We are eager to get back to work - when the public health coast is clear - to surprise and delight and gratefully do our best work serving the Vashon community.
