Daly City Youth Health Center

“Stephanie” is one of the many uninsured, immigrant teenagers who wanted to live the great American dream, yet found herself depressed, like many of her peers. When she turned 19 in 2009, Stephanie bravely left her family in Central America to come to the United States. What started as a dream became a nightmare when she was abused during her travel to San Francisco by the person who was entrusted with her well-being.

Since her journey, Stephanie suffered from constant nightmares, anxiety and panic attacks, and could not engage in even simple conversation nor handshakes with men. She heard about the Daly City Youth Health Center from her school and sought our help. With continuous counseling and hard work with our therapists, Stephanie is now able to communicate and establish a respectful relationship with men without discomfort or trauma relapse. Stephanie is now more resilient and finds purpose in her life as she slowly fulfills her American dream - having a good job and finishing her college degree.  

For 24 years, the Daly City Youth Health Center has helped over 48,000 teens and young adults by providing primary health care, counseling, comprehensive health education, and school-to-vocational career assistance.
