For over 30 years, Dance Place has been the beating heart of dance in Washington DC. We are one of the most prolific presenters of dance in the US.

Dance Place offers a year-round weekend performance series including modern dance, African Dance, tap dance, performance art, hip-hop, and spoken word by local, regional and international dance companies.

Dance Place fosters new artists.
Since our founding in 1980, Dance Place has helped to propel many of the nation’s greatest dance companies onto the national and international stage. We continue our mission to nurture the artistic lives of dancers, choreographers and dance companies by offering affordable facilities and professional support for local, national and internationally touring companies.

Dance Place anchors the Community.
We have been a cornerstone of revitalization in the Brookland and Edgewood communities in Northeast Washington DC, inspiring other schools, businesses and not-for-profits to put down roots in the area. Most recently, in partnership with Artspace Projects Inc., the Brookland Lofts opened in October 2011, providing affordable live/work spaces for 39 local artists, as well as new program and teaching spaces for Dance Place.

Dance Place enriches lives.
We have a dynamic and creative approach to education that includes arts, academics, life skills and job readiness. Our accessible programs for people of all ages and cultures range from Ballet/Tap for three-year-olds, to workshops for professional dancers and audience participatory performances and celebrations. Our model after school program provides creative education through the arts for youth living in urban communities; our work-study and scholarship programs ensure that no one is denied access.
