Dathouse, inc. is a faith-based, community building, 501c3 nonprofit organization located on the near southeast side of Indianapolis, IN. Our mission is to be a leader and catalyst in fostering a healthy mixed income community. We believe that a community is strongest when our greatest needs are met by each other's strongest assets. The idea is really simple: bring neighbors of all backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, and socioeconomic status, into the same space. Everyone has something to give, and everyone has something they need.

We do this through a variety of business initiatives and community initiatives. We own and operate a neighborhood community center, as well as three microbusinesses contained within: Lincoln Lane Coffee Co, DAT Laundry, and the Loft Coworking Space. Any profits from these businesses go back into the community, both through hiring people within our neighborhood and through our community initiatives. These include our DATKids after school program (in partnership with our neighborhood public school down the street), Community Pitch In Meals, Women's Days, a developing youth program for junior and senior high, and our newest program DATKids Academy.

It is my long term goal to develop our children's and youth programming so that we stay connected with the youth and their families all the way through adolescence and into young adulthood. Many of our families are transient, with unstable housing. By remaining a consistent positive presence in these children's lives, we help to provide a sense of stability that is essential to their ability to thrive.

Through my first 3 years with Dathouse, the after school program grew in leaps and bounds. We served 60 neighborhood children at our height, right before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the schools.

At that point, I was reeling for a few days. What if things never returned to "normal"? How could our ministry continue when it was unsafe to bring large numbers of people together into the same space? Our leadership team quickly recovered however, and we moved into problem solving mode. I quickly created online platforms to connect our DATKids families so that we could continue to support each other through the twists and turns of e-learning. We helped raise funds for all students at our neighborhood schools to get devices quickly, and partnered with various neighborhood organizations to provide food security. Over 75% of our student population is below the poverty line, and nearly 100% of our DATKids program participants are, and the public schools here function to provide basic needs, not just an education. Since the schools were shut down indefinitely, our community had to rally quickly.
