Deaf Counseling Advocacy & Referral Agency (Dcara)

A nonprofit organization

$38,708 raised by 211 donors

We work with Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened individuals, families, and children to improve their lives through seven types of services: information and referral services, advocacy, peer counseling, job training, community education, independent living skills, and communication services. We fight for those who have had their human rights to language, communication access, and human connection taken away from them.

DCARA’s mission is to promote and advocate for the rights of full access to American Sign Language and English, education, employment, and cultural identity for all Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened, and DeafBlind people.  Our vision: Global recognition, pride, respect for ASL, equality, and justice for all Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened, and DeafBlind people.

From our humble beginnings in the homes of Deaf community leaders in Berkeley in 1962 to our current base in San Leandro with 9 offices throughout the Bay Area, we are proud of being one of the first “of, by, and for the Deaf" organizations in the country. With a wide range of services provided by a Deaf/Hard of Hearing/Late-Deafened staff, we remain committed to being representative of the community every single day.

Thank you very much for your support. We could not do it without you.
