We provide legal services to at-risk children and their families and using the knowledge we gain from representing our individual clients to advocate for changes in the law and its implementation.

Children’s Law Center’s programs foster hope and create opportunity – focusing on the children who need us most … children in the child welfare system and impoverished children and families with special education and health care problems. One story that stands out is Jeremiah's.

Jeremiah was born extremely premature and suffered from a chronic lung disease that required him to breathe through a tracheotomy tube. He was taken away from his birth mother when he was 2 years old after she caused irreversible brain damage to a younger child. Jeremiah didn’t speak or eat solid food.

That’s when Jeremiah got a CLC attorney. She knew that Jeremiah’s father loved him, but didn’t have the resources or skills to advocate for his son’s complex needs. Jeremiah’s CLC attorney secured a night nurse and assembled a team of specialists to treat Jeremiah. She also got Jeremiah into a special education program where he received intensive speech and physical therapy.

Soon, tragedy struck poor Jeremiah again. When he was 6, his father passed away. But before he died, Jeremiah’s father asked the night nurse who had cared for Jeremiah for two years, to raise him – and she agreed. CLC helped finalize the adoption this spring.
