Festivals, DC aka DC Jazz Festival

The DC Jazz Festival brings over 100,000 people from diverse communities to experience the world's best jazz performers every summer at over 50 venues in 20 neighborhoods in Washington. The annual Festival offers exciting "mostly-free" programs, and features internationally acclaimed performers including the finest Greater DC musicians. We are thrilled to provide over 200 employment opportunities to musicians from the Greater DC region.  Jazz in the Hoods brings live performance to local businesses in all four quadrants. Jazz ’n’ Families Fun Days welcomes all generations to the Phillips Collection for two days of concerts and education. Other signature events draw 30,000+ music-lovers to free, all-day celebrations.

But we don't stop there. The Catalogue of Philanthropy selected the DC Jazz Festival as one of the best small nonprofit charities in Greater DC  for 2011/2012 because we are so much more than a festival.   We offer year-round education programs for underserved children and youth from DC public schools. Students learn about jazz in fun and engaging ways; and become better musicians.  Students who participate in our education programs also get a bonus by performing in the summer Festival.  Our kids rock!

DC Jazz Festival works closely with other non-profits like Sitar Arts Center, THEARC, and with DCPS and education non-profits, to offer free after-school programs, student concerts, workshops and master classes in jazz, blues, Latin, and world music – and to weave music into core subjects such as math and history. Jazz Meets Hip Hop at THEARC, Jazzin' at Sitar at Sitar Arts Center, Jazz for a Healthier Generation at Children's National Medical Center, Jazz 'n Families Fun Days at the Phillips Collection and more.
