DecadesOut Inc

DecadesOut is a 501(c)(3) non-profit production and arts collective based in New York City. It takes its name from the inspiring words of President John F. Kennedy, who in 1961 said "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal before this decade is out of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth."

DecadesOut’s mission is to raise public awareness of the cultural impact between science and humanity and transform the discourse between them through an artistic platform. To accomplish this, DecadesOut supports, develops and produces works of fiction and non-fiction in the disciplines of theatre, film, visual arts, and digital media. 

Current projects include: 

• Head for Highland, a feature documentary about community action, creation and collaboration against the threat of climate change, slated for completion in 2024. It follows the NACL ensemble (North American Cultural Laboratory) and its outdoor performance of The Weather Project; the Soundpainting work and activism of the Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble; and choreographer/performance artist/urban farmer/writer Mayfield Brooks.
• Development of the Science of Violence Initiative, a video journal and podcast tracing causalities of violent events, in particular those associated with climate change.
• The return of the Launch Pad Development Series of New Theatre. The goal is to give theatre artists (including writers and directors) a place to explore a piece's themes, ideas, and theatrical structures in order to help it reach the next level which could include a workshop or an initial production. Previous plays have gone on to be fully realized in mainstage and festival productions.

We are proud of our partnerships with and thankful for the support of The Puffin Foundation, the Climate and Urban Systems Project (CUSP), the Dramatists Guild Fund and the New York Restoration Project, as well as collaborations with the Netherland-America Foundation (NAF), the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Arts Gowanus, and the New York Hall of Science.
