 “Most of the families that we have on the Snack Pac list are homeless.  One student in particular had to live in a cramped shelter, sleeping on a mattress on the floor.  He was only six years old.  He always looked forward to coming down on Fridays to pick up his Snack Pac. Sometimes he would wait until after school to see if there were any extra ones he could take back to the shelter to share with other kids there.  A white plastic bag filled with odds and ends was what he looked forward to every week. I asked him once what was the best thing about getting a Snack Pac and his reply was ‘because this way I know my sisters will have more food.’ - Social Worker, Royal Palm Middle School, WESD
