In Santa Clara County, 6,500 people are without a home on any given night. Of those, 2,169 are considered chronically homeless. The solution is this: permanent, sustainable housing for all, and resources built to last for the long term. It’s time to stop managing homelessness, and end it.
Over the last five years, our coordinated effort and cross sector partnerships have proved that a Housing First model works in Santa Clara County. It demonstrated what national experts have known for years: it’s cheaper to permanently house someone than to continually care for them while they live on the street.
Through data projects like Home Not Found and the Silicon Valley Triage Tool, we understand who are the most vulnerable in our community and can predict who will the most costly users of our emergency systems. Prioritizing these homeless individuals for supportive housing alleviates suffering for the indivudal and reduces overall public costs.
Last year we launched the "All the Way Home" campaign to end veteran homelessness along with Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo. There are over 700 homeless veterans in this county, 85% of whom are unsheltered. No person who served our county should be living on our streets. Learn more about our veteran homelessness work by viewing the video on this page.
Our community deserves real solutions to homelessness. Supportive & Affordable Housing is the answer. We can all be responsible for ending homelessness in our community and together we can reimagine homes and rebuild lives.
Thank you for visiting our site and for supporting our work in ending homelessness in the Silicon Valley.
