We harness the power of horses to expand opportunities for Detroit's youth.

Detroit Horse Power is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2015 by former Detroit elementary school teacher David Silver. We teach Detroit students to ride and care for horses to develop critical skills that will set them up for academic, career, and life success. Our planned urban equestrian center will be built on repurposed vacant land in Detroit and serve as a community center that offers year-round youth programming. Our vision is to give at-risk youth a safe and enriching space that furthers their future development.

Horses teach children critical traits, including perseverance, empathy, responsible risk-taking, confidence, and self-control.

Detroit Horse Power is funded entirely by generous individual donors, foundation grants, and corporate sponsors, allowing us to provide these high-impact opportunities complete FREE for Detroit students.

Your support for Detroit’s young people is more important than ever. With your contribution, we will continue adapting to make the power of horses available to as many students as possible this summer. Please donate below to Sponsor a Student for Detroit Horse Power’s 2023 season of horse camps!
