The Detroit Parent Network is Michigan’s premier parent engagement organization that educates, equips and empowers parents as champions for their children and for change in their schools and community.  Our mission is to create a network of parents working to build and engage parents and others to ensure every child has a champion.  The membership is $10.00 annually and the benefits include:

Core Programs

  • Love & Logic® - Seven-week program; parents will be supported in teaching their kids how to make responsible choices while also owning and solving problems they create. Also teaches parents how to make logical consequences with empathy.
  • Parent Leadership – Seven-week program; parents become self-aware, identify their personal power, clarify their motivation and vision, and develop a personal mission statement. Improve communication, stress management, and project management to positively impact your home, school, and community.
  • Parent Advocacy – Five-week program; parents are engaged to listen, learn, and speak on behalf of themselves and their children to promote efficacy and responsiveness to children’s needs. Parents will learn to identify and mobilize others around shared interests and a common cause. Parents will also learn to leverage emotions, politics, economics and the law to facilitate change.
  • Facilitators Training – Three hours monthly; provides ongoing support for all facilitators and parent leaders of Detroit Parent Network to assist with increasing knowledge, confidence, and execution of trainings and workshops.
  • Special Topics – 3rd Grade Reading Legislation, bullying, conflict resolution.

Support Groups (groups meet monthly with the exception grandparents meet twice monthly; meals and childcare are provided)

  • Come Hear Our Stories (CHOS) – A group where survivors of breast cancer, prostate cancer, or diabetes are encouraged to share their stories with each other and others. Learn about medical screenings, early detection, early treatment, and living a longer and healthier life. A healthcare professional will be present to answer any questions.
  • Grandparents Support Group – Grandparents have increasingly been called upon to play a larger role in raising their grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. This group is designed to give grandparents a boost and to connect them with other people, ideas, and resources in their community.
  • Men of DPN – A monthly group for men who would like to spend some time with other good men working to be great fathers in difficult times. Sessions include good food, timely topics and inspirational speakers.
  • Mommy Support Group – A group of friends who saw a need to support one another through the journey of motherhood. The Mommy Group supports all moms in and around the city of Detroit!
  • Today is the Day LGBTQ Parent Support Group – Today is the Day strives to connect families with children who are LGBTQ with resources that support them. This parent group works to create safe and inclusive environments for our LGBTQ parents and families.
  • Special Needs Parent Support Group – A group of parents, family members and caregivers meet for support of their child that is on the spectrum of special needs.
