Our focus and efforts have temporarily shifted from raising money for building schools and supporting indigent families to raising money for the earthquake relief effort in Mankha, Nepal, where our first school was nearing completion. No doubt you have heard stories of money and supplies disappearing, diverted, and sold to the highest bidder on the streets. We have too. While it is hard to imagine people using this horrific event to personally profit, we know that you have many options when it comes to giving your hard-earned dollars. We offer a unique opportunity to donate to honest people with the best of intentions and a high conversion ratio.
Developing Hands is a grassroots 501(c)3 non-profit established in 2005 to create education opportunities in Nepal. We are based in Boulder, CO and made up of 100% volunteers; passionate, honest, and dedicated individuals who share the goal of building schools in Nepal and nurturing a supportive community environment for children to learn and grow. Developing Hands was founded by Mukesh and Apsara Jha after migrating from Nepal to the US in 2004.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create education opportunities by building schools and create long-term community partnerships by supporting community development in Nepal.
In 2014, Developing Hands partnered with another non-profit organization, Namlo International, to build our first school in Mankha VDC of the Sindhupalchok District in Nepal. Mankha is home to about 4,000 people, largely subsistence farmers. It’s barely even on the map, and if you look at Wikipedia, there is simply a one line entry with data from 1991. Developing Hands is building the replacement building for “Shree Saraswati Secondary School” in ward no. 4 of Mankha where more than 200 students will benefit from the school. The previous school was rundown with major structural damage and required a replacement building as soon as possible in order to keep the children safe. With the rebuilding of the school, students will no longer live in fear of the school crumbling on top of them, and ultimately be able to continue their studies to further their lives. The construction of “Shree Saraswati Secondary School’s” new building started in November 2014 and has an estimated completion date of June 2015.
