The Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona provides diapers and incontinence supplies to children and adults through community partners.
With your help, we provide diapers to those living below the poverty level, defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as an annual gross income of $22,350 for a family of four.
In 2012, the Census Bureau listed Tucson as sixth-poorest large metro area in the country, with 37% of children living in homes below the poverty level.
We work with other nonprofits, social service and diverse faith-based organizations to keep administrative costs low and help those most in need. Our partners are crisis nurseries, emergency shelters, relief agencies and more.
Diapers cost $100 per month, regardless of size. A baby needs 8-12 diapers per day.
One in three American moms struggles to diaper her babies. She may cut back on food and other necessities to keep her baby clean. Parents lacking sufficient resources will empty solid waste and try to reuse wet disposable diapers, putting babies and toddlers at risk for staph and other infections.
Diaper rash is painful. Babies with rash are at an increased risk for abuse, as parents are stressed and often "snap."
Similarly, seniors and disabled people are at risk for abuse from caregivers and family when left too long in incontinence supplies.
Thanks to you, in 2015, we provided more than 1,400,000 diapers and incontinence supplies to 19, 932 children and 2,718 seniors and disabled people!
There is so much more work to be done. You can help us assist the people who call us every day, requesting our services.
So much tragedy and heartbreak can be averted with a simple little diaper.
With diapers, a family can put a child in daycare (which requires a day's supply of diapers), thus allowing a parent to attend school or go to work, helping to end the cycle of poverty. Parents may use limited resources to purchase food, pay rent or utilities, instead of buying diapers.
You can make a difference.
Each day it is the same story for another family, but each deserves a chance. Each child is someone's hope and dream; each senior who needs our help, had golden year dreams go awry.
Together, we can help our neighbors and meet the new faces of poverty with a package of diapers.
Thank you for supporting the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona.
