CHDs Disability Resources

CHD Disability Resources offers adaptive sports and recreational activities to improve and empower the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments. A variety of adaptive sports provide barrier-free recreational and competitive opportunities for people of all skill levels and age groups, as well as their family and friends. The athletic programs run year-round and include wheelchair basketball, soccer, hockey, cycling, golf, swimming and more . Equipment is available to borrow for a nominal fee, such as: handcycles, sport wheelchairs, bi-ski, mono-skis, and bowling equipment. Social outings include movies, dinners, or concerts.

A membership fee of $50 per year is requested to help offset program and equipment costs. Members receive reduced rates on activities, special events and equipment loans, as well as a subscription to the newsletter.

The Junior Sled Hockey team won the New England Sled Hockey Invitational. Winning is important to any sports team but to these kids it's so much more. "Sled hockey gives each of the kids the ability to be on a hockey team, go to school and be equal with their peers - talk about sports. They got to do something really neat and be the champions of the longest running sled hockey tournament in the country. They get to belong to something. They might appear physically different from their peers but the camaraderie of sports breaks down a lot of barriers. They're athletes."
