Disaster Accountability Project

A nonprofit organization

435 donors

Started in 2008 after Hurricane Katrina, Disaster Accountability Project (DAP) has improved emergency preparedness and disaster responses and recoveries in the US and globally.  DAP's reports after the Haiti and Nepal earthquakes improved the transparency of nearly $2 billion dollars of funds raised.

SmartResponse.org, a new DAP initiative is designed to improve the effectiveness of billions of dollars of disaster relief and humanitarian aid donations globally by incentivizing transparency and helping donors make more informed decisions about how/where to donate.

SmartResponse.org advances the UN World Humanitarian Summit's Grand Bargain by smartly curating localized "how to help" lists so organizations on the ground can be quickly identified and directly supported, expediting critical resources to organizations operating locally after disasters.

The information collected and shared by SmartResponse will improve more than post-disaster giving.  Aid coordination, oversight, media reporting, and survivor access to available services will all benefit. More resources in the hands of local organizations will strengthen disaster hit communities and allow local organizations to access critical resources that will not only benefit response and recovery but also future mitigation and preparedness.
