Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence...

The Domestic Abuse Project of  Delaware County, Inc. (DAP) works to prevent domestic violence and empower victims to move towards self-sufficiency.

Since 1976, DAP has provided safety, advocacy and supportive services to victims of domestic abuse not otherwise available within Delaware County. 

DAP is the only provider of services exclusively to victims of domestic violence within Delaware County.  

In addition to a 24-hour emergency hotline offering support to victims, DAP has four key program areas: 

1) emergency shelter provides up to 30 days of safety providing basic needs of food, clothing and personal care items to women and their children who have nowhere else to go.  Case managers help obtain resources for children, employment opportunities and transitional or permanent housing

 2) DAP’s counseling program provides individual and group support, financial empowerment classes and short or longer-term therapeutic counseling to help victims break the cycle of violence. DAP’s Children’s Counselor helps victims as young as three years to navigate their own trauma 

3) a staff attorney and legal advocates assist with filing Protection From Abuse (PFA) orders as well as representing victims in court hearings

4) community outreach reaches school students with a teen dating violence program, community fairs and a medical advocate advises healthcare providers on how to screen for domestic violence. A former police officer on staff trains local law enforcement on how to respond to domestic disputes and conduct a lethality risk assessment. 

DAP also operates Nana’s Attic, a local thrift store, selling gently used clothing and household items. Opened in 2002 as a source of earned income for the Agency, it is also a resource for clients and their children.
