Draft Gratitude

A nonprofit organization

$1,705 raised by 28 donors

Every horse that comes to us has a similar story—a story of hard work, uncertainty, and becoming unwanted when they can no longer work due to age or medical issues.

While their stories might be similar, each horse is unique—each has its own personality, likes, dislikes, fears, and what brings them comfort.

Bandit joined us with a ruptured eye. He had developed cancer in his eye that nobody bothered to treat.  Even though his eye was painful, Bandit remained calm, well-mannered, and easy to work with. Now that he’s here, he’s so grateful and loves to be loved on. His genuine appreciation for the care he receives is a reminder of why we do this work.

Dolly arrived skinny, filthy, mistrusting, and scared. It took time for her to feel safe. She was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and received treatment, which helped her start feeling better. Getting her physical health back on track was the first step in helping her feel secure in her new home. Dolly began showing her gratitude through gentle nuzzles and quiet moments of connection and resilience.

Senior work horses are an extremely vulnerable group due to their size, the high cost of care, neglected veterinary needs, and the many specialized requirements they have as they age.

But they have spent their lives working hard and have earned a safe retirement, not an uncertain future.

That's where you come in.

Your gift allows us to say “yes” to next Bandit or Dolly that needs us.

And when we say “yes,” we’re not just providing food, shelter, and care—we’re ensuring that each horse receives the veterinary attention, farrier care, and appropriate nutrition they need. We’re giving them a chance to live out their days with dignity, comfort, and companionship.

None of this would be possible without you. You’re not just a donor—you’re a partner in the rescue and care of these incredible animals.

Will you give today and be a chapter in the next story of hope and healing? Your gift of $31, $62, $120, or more, will make an immediate difference.

Thank you for being part of this important work.

Who We Are

Draft Gratitude gives senior working horses a second chance and a place to call home.

The draft horses that we focus on are aged farming horses who have worked tirelessly their entire lives. They have earned a second chance and a safe retirement.

Once rehabilitated, some horses can be paired with qualified adoptive homes to be used for light work including farming, homesteading, trail riding, pleasure driving and companionship. Horses that are not adoptable for any reason will live our their lives in sanctuary at our farm.

With your help, we are making a difference in the lives of unwanted draft horses.
