Drama Studio Inc

The Studio’s mission is to enrich and validate the youth experience in our diverse community via excellence in a conservatory-style acting training program.

The Drama Studio is one of a handful of after-school acting conservatories in the United States where a young actor can intensively study and advance through a theatre curriculum before he or she is 18. 

The Drama Studio was founded in 1987 by Steve Hays and a small group of educators and parents to address the need for a quality after-school acting training program for young people in the Greater Springfield area. From the beginning, the Drama Studio has offered a conservatory-style program in which young people can study acting as comprehensively as they might study music.  Students who come to the Studio are supported by a carefully designed curriculum, productions of quality scripts, a variety of events and class styles to ensure a diverse student-body and a strong scholarship program/sliding scale to ensure accessibility for all.

Though 60% of our income is earned, the Drama Studio requires a subsidy in order to offer high-quality training on a sliding scale, varied performance opportunities, community events, and extensive outreach programming.
