Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club

In every community across America, young people are left to find their own after-school recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision, and the after-school hours between 3:00 and 7:00 pm are especially critical. Young people need to know that there is somewhere safe to go where people care about them. 

The Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club offers that care and much, much more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of our young people by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence.

From its founding in 1936 to the present, our Club has been offering continuous service to young Alexandrians, who, like their counterparts across the country, need the love and attention that our talented professional staff and caring volunteers give them every day.  When our kids feel good about themselves, they interact more effectively with friends, family, and  classmates.  They earn better grades in school, and they have a far better chance to become productive citizens of our communities and our great country.

The Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club is far more than sports (although our Club members    certainly like their recreation and sports programs!).  Our Club is about education and career development; character and leadership; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness, and recreation.  Every day, our staff, supported by an army of volunteers, nurtures the Club’s members through after-school programs designed to engage (and challenge) and apply knowledge that may be missing from their home environments.
