East San Jose Futbol Club

Growing up in East San Jose,life was not easy. Gang fights, broken bottles, strangers running through your yard, all in one night. Lucky for me and my family we had soccer to keep us busy after school and on weekends. After high school I joined the Navy, graduated from San Jose State, and have been working in the medical device industry for over 20 years now, I have helped thousands of lives with the devices that I help bring to the market. Raising a family and having kids, I was reminded of where I grew up when my kids started to attend the same schools that I attended at their age-not much has changed. Taging, broken bottles, garbage. Parents trying to do the best they could with what they have. I looked and said "Enough, this has to change, how many kids have we lost to gangs, drop outs that could have made a difference in their family tree, like I have." And so I had this vision, that if we could create an atmosphere that could foster the same growth that I had when I was growing up, support for the family, academic support for the student, and a well organized athletic program for the athlete, we could actually impact some kids. And so the East San Jose Futbol Club was born, with no funding, no formal training but just asking lots of questions, and a passion for soccer and our future generational success we are slowing making progress. Enrolling kids from the local community, keeping them busy during the week and weekends. Bringing in local colleges to speak to them about staying strong and focusing on their dreams. Partnering with City of San Jose and local community programs to provide further support for their academics and nutrition programs for their families.
