Eastern Area Christian Ministries

EACM was organized in 1990 by five neighborhood churches in the belief that, they could better serve the needy in the community.  In twenty-two years, the ministry has grown to eighteen churches from five different denominations.  Partner churches provide financial support, non perishable food items, and more than 100 volunteers who staff and run the program for approximately 7,000 individuals each year.  EACM has one paid employee, a part-time paid Executive Director.  Clients may receive groceries five times each year, along with good used clothing.  EACM also provides limited utility assistance to some of our families.  Despite the affluence in much of eastern Jefferson County, there remains much poverty among people who struggle from day to day on minimal or no income.  Far too many of our neighbors fall through the cracks, even with government  and private resources.  When faced with a crisis in their lives, they look to their local churches for help when they have nowhere else to turn.

EACM serves families who live in the following zip codes:  35210; 35206; 35215; 35173; 35126; 35235 and 35217.  These families live in Irondale; East Lake; Center Point; Trussville; Pinson; Roebuck and Tarrant.  We  have already served many families from the Center Point area who had damage to their homes from the recent tornado's.  The clients we serve come to EACM with many needs:  all are hungry and need food; most need clothing; some are parent's and grandparents raising children / grandchildren and in need of diapers; many need fiancial assistance to prevent thier water, power or gas from being turned off; some have lost their jobs and are un-employed; many are moms who work two jobs and ends still do not meet; almost all live below the poverty level; many come in house shoes, because that is all they have; clients come from all racial backgrounds and are all ages; many are sick, a few have been abused; many have just gotten out of jail or rehab; many have no income at all; and almost all come saying they are blessed and grateful for what they have been given!  The volunteers are thankful too...for it is in serving one another, that we are truly blessed!
