When you look at a city like Las Vegas, it can be a bit distracting… With all of the neon lights, award winning shows, world class restaurants, and general air of excitement, it can be easy to forget that behind it all lies a regular city with regular problems. It can be easy to forget that we still rank well over the national average in unemployment. It can be easy to forget that more and more families lose their homes and have to turn to the streets every day. It can be easy to forget about the veterans and the disabled—the seniors who only want to live a normal, independent lifestyle.

It can be easy to forget that we are a community in need.

At East Valley Family Services, our mission is to provide the support that families, children, and seniors need to become and remain self-sustainable, healthy, and socially responsible. This April 25th, we invite you (in partnership with NEVADA’S BIG GIVE) to share in our mission and help improve our community by supporting your favorite non-profit organization in whatever way you can. It only takes a few hours of your time or a few dollars of your charity to change a family’s life forever!

A few of our on-site programs: 

Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center’s primary goal is to strengthen families, neighborhoods, and the community as a whole by offering a variety of programs that promote family wellness, self-sustainability and social responsibility. Assistance is offered in the form of food, energy and transportation aid, employment and job training, employment referrals, identification needs, and application assistance.

Seniors & Disabilities Resource Center

The Seniors & Disability Resource Center helps seniors and people with physical or developmental disabilities, as well as their families and caregivers, in locating and obtaining the services and resources that they need to continue living healthy and independent lifestyles. Such services include general information assistance, long-term care and options counseling, as well as aid in locating and applying for appropriate benefits.

Senior Share 

The Senior Share program is aimed towards ensuring that our community’s seniors are receiving a complete and balanced diet. The food packages do not constitute entire meals, but rather contain fruits, vegetables, bread, and other food sources to round out the healthy nutritional balance that might otherwise be missing from their diet. Furthermore, the Senior Share program serves a continental breakfast spread and encourages its participants to stay and socialize with one another whilst they eat—providing an important social outlet and community forum.

Bears & Binkies 

Bears & Binkies is an on-site parenting class that offers our community’s mothers and fathers a unique classroom experience that not only covers healthy parenting skills, but involves their children in the learning process as well. In addition to weekly classes, Bears & Binkies hosts events such as picnics, carnivals, and themed dances to generate positive interaction and growth within the community.
