We are dedicated to promoting the recognition of black achievements in aviation, preserving the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, and to inspire and motivate young men and women towards endeavors in aviation and aerospace careers.

One of the chapter's primary focus areas is the Youth in Aviation Program (YIAP).  Started in 1996, YIAP was created to continue the Tuskegee legacy and inspire minority youth.  The program is divided into 3 levels:

Level I--designed to expose high school students (ages 15-19) to careers in aviation.  This initial training is held on Saturdays over a 5 week period.

Level II--designed for the serious student who has decided s/he is interested in becoming a pilot. Based on qualifications, ground school is 8-10 weekends in preparation for passing the FAA written exam.

Level III--the flying portion of the program that includes at least 15 hours of flight instruction leading eventually to a solo flight.

Some of the short and long term goals are:

--To provide more up to date teaching materials, simulators, etc.

--To offer level II & III training programs for other aviation related career fields such as maintenance, ATC, weather, etc.

--Provide for funding to assist level III students with obtaining their pilot's license

--Compile & publish booklets for conducting/teaching Level I training

--Discover new ways to partner with other aviation organizations
